About Us

Work done well, with a personal touch. That’s our commitment!

As a family run business, we pride ourselves in attention to detail and knowledge on a wide range of historical buildings and correct practices. Having been in the industry for over 30 years, Paul has developed good relationships with architects, employees and subcontractors alike. This enables us to take on a wide range of projects in the knowledge that we have a strong team in which we can trust. A couple of the projects we have worked on are the re-ordering of St Giles church in Pontefract and extensive work on Rotherham Minster.

Services

Our job starts with you: understanding what you need, so we can offer you options that make sense.

As you can see from the extensive list below, we undertake almost any type of restoration and improvement schemes, from drainage to tower works and everything in between. We are also happy to look at new build extensions as we are able to incorporate our understanding of historical buildings into new build projects so they complement each other seamlessly. We also have extensive saws at our yard so can offer a stone cutting service. Just get in touch!

Projects

Any project, big or small

We have worked on projects across the country, from the East Coast to Derbyshire. We’re always happy to offer advice and suggestions on a variety of renovation and development plans and work closely with architects to ensure the right outcome for the building and the people that use this.

Pontefract church – This was a full re-ordering project which included a new stone floor, under floor heating, installation of a lift, toilets and roof repairs

Utterby – The main body of this project was the tower work, this included extensive stone replacement on the chalk tower, redecoration of weather vane including gold leaf, window repair work including glazing, gutters and downpipes, decorative internal glass screen, limewashing of all of the chalk stone on the tower to create a protective layer, a full replacement gable end and new coping stones

Kirkby Green – One of our smaller projects, this was a repair of brick wall, which included taking down, digging out, laying new foundations and rebuilding this with weep holes for drainage

Oweston Ferry – Again, one of our smaller projects to install a new trench arch drain to service the church

Crowle – One of our more recent, larger projects, this included a new stainless steel roof, high level stabilisation of the tower, work to clock surround to create support for the clock to be re-fixed into, main beam repairs and nearly a full replacement of a stone archway and ashlars to the porch door

Laughton – We have been part of consultations on tower work repairs, completed downpipe refurbishment and repairs, cleaning of gutters and repairs to a slate roof

Froddingham – The church approached us for our views on their exsisting stonefloor that has worn away and become a trip hazard in some areas. We came to an agreement to install a new internal stone floor to match the existing. We are also carrying out replacement of external ashlar stones, rejuvenation of an existing toilet which includes lime plastering

Healing – Another new roof project, we installed a new slate roof, completed renewal of coping stones, a full internal redecoration, full ceiling repair work which included over boarding to conserve the original ceiling

Alkmonton – This church had had issues with subsidence for some time, due to an extremely dry summer, the gable end had moved considerably and therefore needed extensive underpinning, new drainage, ceiling stabilisation (this was a painting ceiling to appear to be wooden beams and external wall ties to stabilise the gable end

East Keal – This was an urgent repair project due to falling masonry from the tower. Due to stone cladding on all sides of the tower, high winds had blown some loose masonry down causing damage to the slate roof. Due to this, we have completed slate roof repairs and stabilisation of the tower masonry which included pinning the stones and pointing where needed

Halton Holeagte – a project that was completed in early 2019, this church had been a victim of lead theft. This needed the church requiring a new stainless steel roof and some stone repairs. This included stone repairs to buttress’s and ashlars, over-hall of gutters and downpipes and carpentry repairs to the roof
